Gas powered lawn mowers might have undergone plenty of changes in the past few decades but the traditional design has remained the same. If you are after a simple to use, no-frills mower then the Husqvarna 5521P is an excellent choice.
It uses a 140cc Briggs & Stratton engine that is easy to start with a CARB compliant design. It offers easy maneuverability even in tight spaces and total of three cutting mechanisms. Simple to assemble with only the handle and blades that need attaching, this particular mower folds up to store away in a tight space. The only real change in its otherwise traditional design is the large 12 inch rear wheel (front tires are 8 inches high) that helps in maintaining straight lines and pushing it forward.
Our Review: Husqvarna LC121P Lawn Mower
Having tried and tested many gas lawn mowers in the past, most of my complaints were against their lack of effectiveness with damp or dense grass growth. The Husqvarna 5521P is possibly the only exception to this. In the two weeks I have used it on my 3/4th acre lawn, it has never once stalled. The first time I ran it over a patch of dense soggy growth, it ate through 90 percent of the grass without whining or stalling. With the second pass, the damp grass was cut down to size. If you are in need of a star performer that can deal with just about any kind of grass growth, dampness or other growth but don’t want to spend too much then this is it.
Putting the mower together needs no manual or guide. It already comes preassembled and all you need to do is join the handlebar to the mower, add the blades and hook the rear bag. It took me under 5 minutes to get it ready and with a full tank, it started on the second pull with zero effort. The starting mechanism has definitely undergone a lot of refining as I don’t remember Husqvarna and Briggs & Stratton engines being so user friendly in the past. In fact, I was astonished to find it start so calmly with the second pull. Ever since then, it has never once failed to start on the first pull and never stalled either.
The only real complain that I can point out against this lawn mower is the 12 inch rear tires kind of make it hard to maneuver around objects. You literally have to back it up a couple of times to get around obstacles. Otherwise, the height adjustment, blade and discharge system all work fine. In short, this is a proper traditional design for a gas mower that is ultra-dependable to the core.

Conclusion: Husqvarna LC121P Lawn Mower Review
Using the Husqvarna 5521P, I was reminded of the good old days when gas mowers were the norm and they were designed to keep things short and simple. This mower gives me confidence of its longevity, efficiency and usefulness. Probably the only thing you will have to change in it is the blade as it dulls over time. Otherwise this is the most dependable gas mower that money can buy (which won’t be much either).
